I had recently migrated to wordpress 3.1.2. Ever since this upgrade, the photo dropper plugin refused to work. I googled a bit for solutions but of no avail. Disabling other plugins, reinstalling photo dropper plugin etc did not help. The problem was that whenever I used to enter a keyword and click on search, nothing would happen and result area would remain as a blank page. This problem prevented me from using external photos on my blog for a while. Thankfully, I have found an excellent alternative which works the….. Read More
Genesis WordPress Theme Preview Shows A Blank Page
I mentioned in one of my previous posts that I am contemplating migrating Inficone to the Genesis theme. A couple of days back, I finally purchased the Genesis Theme ( version 1.6.1 ) and uploaded it to the wp-content of my WordPress installation. It is recommended that the Genesis Child Theme is used with the Genesis framework. Once the child theme was in place, I decided to checkout the look and feel of the site in Genesis by doing a theme preview from the WordPress dashboard. To my surprise I….. Read More
Your Personal Experience Can Be Your Most Rewarding Blog Post
Blogging for me is not about making money. It is an extension of my online identity. It is a place where not only can I share my ramblings but also create content that can help the readers overcome a problem. In a mad race to get more subscribers and hence more revenue, many bloggers tend to write posts just to target some popular keywords. It’s more of a case of keyword defining the content rather than vice versa. While this may work in the short run, it could also turn….. Read More
WordPress Missed Schedule Solution
Last to last weekend I had scheduled a few posts for the previous week. To my horror – I discovered mid-week that the posts haven’t been published. When I checked my dashboard, it showed <Schedule missed> error for each of the posts. This was disappointing as I was occupied last week and had done this scheduling to make sure that blogging momentum is not lost even if I do not have time for blogging. photo credit: Photo Extremist A lot of effort goes in to each and every post including….. Get Images For Commercial Use Through Google Search
In my earlier posts, I had talked about how can you get royalty free photos for your blog and also have creative commons images in your wordpress blog posts easily. However, if you are looking at an even simpler way to get free images for commercial use, you do not need anything more than your regular Google image search. So what do I need to do? Head over to Google advance image search. Enter the keyword for image search along with optional parameters like file type/size. Under the usage rights….. Read More
The Must Have WordPress Post Publish CheckList
Whenever I complete writing a post, there are always a set of steps that I take care of before hitting the publish button. Initially, the number of steps were few but as I started learning more and more about blogging/SEO/social media and so on, this small checklist started increasing to take care of the same. I will be sharing this checklist in this post as I feel that it is a kind of must have for every blog publisher. Typically, I use the wordpress editor itself for composing/editing/publishing my posts.….. Read More
Customize Plugin Order Below WordPress Posts Using Add_Filter
There are a number of wordpress plugins available today that would display some particular content at the bottom of your wordpress posts. These plugins could be anything ranging from subscription options for your blog, sharing links for the post OR a plugin to display related posts to the existing post. Once you enable the requisite plugins, you would see the various outputs appearing at the bottom of every post. As an example, for the post on call to action button, the following snapshot show the information displayed by the plugins….. Read More
WordPress Read More And Excerpt Customization Tips
If you are a blogger on wordpress or an avid blog reader, you would appreciate the importance of post excerpts in wordpress which provide you with a small abstract of the post text ( typically the first few lines of the post ). The excerpt is followed by a hyper link which says something like “Read More” or “Continue Reading”. As a blogger, you would not expect a reader to go to each individual post and have a look at the same for information. Rather, the reader might like a….. Read More

How I Got 100+ Comments On A Blog Post – An Analysis
Last week, my post on tatkaal passport got it’s 100th comment. It was a little milestone that triggered me to think what all I had done right that enabled me to reach there. For the ones unfamiliar with hindi, Tatkaal means prompt/urgent. Under this Indian scheme, you can get your passport in a week or so as opposed to around two months that it takes for a normal application. photo credit: GoTRISI Last August, I had got my passport renewed under this scheme and had to really spend significant time…..
